African Coconut Heritage Initiative
Promoting Africa’s coconut heritage, economic opportunities, sustainability, tourism, and community development.
The African Coconut Heritage Initiative (AFRICOCO) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting, preserving, and advancing the coconut industry as a catalyst for sustainable economic development, environmental conservation, cultural heritage preservation, tourism promotion, and community empowerment across Nigeria and Africa.
Founded on the belief that the coconut tree is one of nature’s most valuable resources, AFRICOCO works to unlock the enormous economic, social, and environmental potential of the coconut value chain through advocacy, education, partnerships, festivals, exhibitions, and community development initiatives.
The coconut industry has the capacity to create jobs, improve livelihoods, stimulate rural development, attract investment, support environmental sustainability, and contribute significantly to national economic growth.
To build a thriving and globally competitive coconut industry that drives economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, cultural preservation, and inclusive development across Africa.
To promote and preserve Africa’s coconut heritage through advocacy, education, tourism, entrepreneurship, innovation, strategic partnerships, and sustainable value-chain development while empowering communities and future generations.
AFRICOCO works across the coconut ecosystem to promote growth, sustainability, investment, tourism, and community empowerment.
We advocate for increased coconut cultivation, improved farming practices, value addition, processing, marketing, and investment opportunities.
We engage stakeholders, policymakers, institutions, and communities to promote initiatives that support the sustainable growth of the coconut industry.
Through tree-planting campaigns and conservation initiatives, we encourage coconut plantation restoration and climate resilience.
We leverage coconut-growing communities, particularly Badagry, to promote agro-tourism, cultural tourism, and local economic growth.
We celebrate traditions, arts, crafts, history, and cultural expressions linked to coconut-producing communities.
We provide training, technical support, and consultancy services to farmers, cooperatives, investors, organizations, and government institutions.
Our Flagship Initiative
AgunkeFest, the International Coconut Heritage Festival, celebrates culture, tourism, business, sustainability, and economic opportunities in the coconut industry. It brings together farmers, researchers, investors, government agencies, development partners, cultural stakeholders, entrepreneurs, and the public through exhibitions, business forums, cultural performances, awards, workshops, and networking sessions.
At AFRICOCO, we are committed to building a future where the coconut industry serves as a powerful driver of economic transformation, environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and sustainable development across Africa.
Growing opportunities. Preserving heritage. Building a sustainable future.
