Lagos State Government and Africoco Announce the 12th International Coconut Festival (Agunkefest 2025)

Lagos, Nigeria – 12 November 2025 — The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the African Coconut Heritage Initiative (Africoco), Badagry Local Government, Olorunda, and Badagry West Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), is set to host the 12th International Coconut Festival, popularly known as Agunkefest 2025.

The annual event, which celebrates the economic, cultural, and environmental significance of the coconut, will hold from Wednesday, 3rd December to Saturday, 6th December 2025, across various locations in Badagry—the historical hub of coconut cultivation in Nigeria.

Event Schedule

Day One – Coconut Tree Planting Program

• Date: Wednesday, 3rd December 2025

• Venue: Badagry West LCDA Secretariat, Kankon

• Time: 9:00 AM

Day Two – Coconut Tree Planting Program

• Date: Thursday, 4th December 2025

• Venue: Olorunda LCDA

• Time: 10:00 AM

Grand Finale – Saturday, 6th December 2025

a. Coconut Breaking and Cultural Opening Program

• Venue: Topo

• Time: 7:00 AM

b. Symposium and Coconut Empowerment Program

• Venue: Badagry City Hall

• Time: 10:00 AM

c. Coconut Fair/Float Parade and Cultural/Musical Performance

• Venue: Badagry Waterfront (Pathfinder)

• Time: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Promoting Heritage and Economic Growth

The International Coconut Festival serves as a strategic platform to promote the coconut value chain, enhance agribusiness innovation, and foster community-based empowerment across Lagos State. It also provides opportunities for cultural exchange, creative expression, and collaboration among farmers, investors, artisans, and youth.

Speaking on the forthcoming event, representatives of Africoco reiterated the organization’s commitment to working with government and stakeholders to sustain the coconut industry as a major contributor to food security, employment, and environmental sustainability.
